The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is Thailand's long-stay route for remote workers, participants in listed activities, and eligible dependants. This is the deep guide — application files, financial tests, post-arrival compliance, and how DTV differs from tourist stamps. For a shorter overview, see DTV overview.

DTV categories in plain language

Remote workers (digital nomads)

You work for employers or clients outside Thailand. You need credible proof — employment contract, client invoices, company registration, or tax returns — not a tourist itinerary. The DTV does not authorise work for a Thai employer; that requires Non-Immigrant B and a work permit.

Listed activities

Current rules name specific programmes: commonly Muay Thai training at approved gyms, certain medical treatment plans, and cultural activities in the notification. Generic tourism does not qualify.

Dependants

Spouses and children may apply linked to a qualifying principal applicant. Each person needs a complete file and meets dependant relationship rules.

Financial requirements

Officers look for sustainable evidence, not a last-minute deposit.

ItemAmountNotes
DTV visa fee10,000 THBEmbassy or Thai e-Visa; dependants pay separately
Bank balance threshold500,000+ THBCheck active notification; some posts want 6 months of statements

Warning

Recently funded accounts, borrowed balances, or screenshots without bank letters are frequent refusal reasons. Gather statements early.

Application step by step

  1. 1

    Download the current DTV notification

Immigration Bureau and MFA publish eligibility, activities, and financial floors. Note whether your nationality uses Thai e-Visa.

  2. 2

    Choose the correct activity box

Remote work and Muay Thai need different supporting letters. Match the category exactly.

  3. 3

    Prepare financial evidence

Bank statements, income proof, translations, and apostilles if your embassy requires them.

  4. 4

    Apply through the designated channel

Thai e-Visa or in-person at the embassy serving your legal residence. Dependants usually file together.

  5. 5

    Enter and photograph the stamp

The visa sticker permits entry; the immigration stamp sets how long you may stay this visit.

  6. 6

    Complete post-arrival compliance

TM.30 address notification, 90-day reporting if applicable, active insurance.

After arrival: TM.30 and 90-day reporting

Long-stay permissions trigger paperwork tourist stamps often skip.

TM.30 — register your address when you move in. Landlords or condo juristic offices often file; keep the receipt. Guide: TM.30 house notification · TM.30 task.

90-day reporting (TM.47) — periodic check-in while you remain in Thailand. The clock runs from last entry or last report, not visa expiry. Guide: 90-day reporting · 90-day task.

Common refusals and mistakes

  • Applying as a tourist with no remote-work or activity proof
  • Assuming visa validity equals one continuous stay without reading the stamp
  • Treating DTV as a work permit for a Thai company
  • Ignoring TM.30 and 90-day rules until extension week
  • Relying on outdated 2024 blog posts for fees and stay length
