If you entered Thailand on visa exemption or a Tourist Visa (TR), you can often apply for a 30-day extension at a provincial immigration office using form TM.7. This grants a new permission stamped in your passport — it is not an automatic extra month and not every entry qualifies.
Who can extend
Typical eligible cases include many 60-day exemption and TR entries where the officer agrees a tourist extension is appropriate. You must apply before the current stamp expires.
Not eligible examples (common — confirm locally):
- Entries already extended once when only one extension is allowed
- Certain visa types that require a different extension category
- Stamps marked with conditions prohibiting extension
Overstaying while you “plan to extend tomorrow” is still an overstay. File while the stamp is valid.
Warning
Bangkok immigration offices (Chaeng Watthana, IT Square Lak Si, etc.) handle high volume. Provincial offices can be faster but may interpret edge cases differently. Choose the office that matches your registered address where rules require it.

Procedure

Confirm the stamp can be extended
Read the current Immigration notice or call the office. Some land-border entries receive shorter stays with different extension rules.

Prepare TM.7 and copies
Download TM.7, attach a 4×6 cm photo, copy passport biodata and latest stamp pages. Some offices want copy service on-site.

Queues form before opening at popular offices. Dress respectfully; phones may be restricted in inner rooms.

Same-day return is common, not guaranteed. Verify the new expiry date before you leave the counter.

What to expect on the day
Officers may ask your purpose, accommodation, and funds in plain language. Answer consistently with your TM.30 address. Biometrics and photos are routine at central offices.
Holiday closures: Thai public holidays and royal ceremony days close immigration nationally. Do not schedule extension on the last valid day of your stamp if a holiday follows.
After the extension
Photograph the new stamp immediately. Reset your calendar from the new expiry date. If you hold a long-stay permission later, 90-day reporting may apply — tourist extensions usually do not trigger TM.47, but confirm if your situation changes.

Do children extend the same way?
