Task

Extend a stay

Apply in Thailand to add days to a tourist exemption, TR, or other eligible stamp.

· checked against official sources below

Who this is for

People already in Thailand whose stamp allows an in-country extension (commonly 30 days for tourism).

Overview

An extension is a new permission, not an automatic extra month. You file TM.7 at a provincial immigration office, pay the fee, and wait for a new stamp. Same-day service is common but not guaranteed. Bring more photographs and photocopies than you think you need. Overstaying while you “plan to extend tomorrow” is still an overstay.

How to do it

  1. 1

Confirm your current stamp can be extended

Not every entry type extends. The office that granted the stamp, and the current notification, control this.
  2. 2

    File TM.7 in person

Arrive early. Many offices take a photo and fingerprints on site. Collect the passport the same day if they say so.

Documents

  • Passport
  • TM.7 form
  • One or more passport photographs
  • 1,900 THB in cash (typical tourist extension)
  • TM.30 receipt if the office requires it

What changed

  1. A typical in-country tourist extension is 30 days on TM.7 at about 1,900 THB. Approval is discretionary.
